It is frightful when a report from ofsted, otherwise slamming the vocational sector, highlights one innovative practice that makes you chuckle and think .... hmm we were doing this over ten years ago.

Take a peek at the section that describes teaching telecommuncations and cabling as innovative.

Yeah really, I wonder if the eejits writing this report knew what was happening at the turn of the millenium, what some of the centres who became "centres of vocational excellence" were up to and the many hours we had with many groups professionally cabling different 'real' environments to ensure that they had the vocational experience.

But a US Government Accountability Office report has suggested that many in-flight wireless networks could expose the plane to being hacked or remotely controlled . In fact it’s of such a concern to US authorities that when a well-known computer security expert made an admittedly ill-thought-out joke about doing so on Twitter, he was promptly arrested, his computers confiscated, and subsequently banned from the airline . It is not about buildings ...

Recently I visited a Cisco Academy in London - located in what I can freely describe as a humble environ. However, the quality of the kit and the skills and motivation of the teaching team put it all into perspective. It really isn't about the buildings. Yes, in other roles - I have been to centres boasting the best/shiniest/fab new builds. Yet from the resource and mindset of those involved. I think that the modest building and the excellent team beats a pretty site any time.
