Are you a vocationalist? ...

I do like further education colleges … fact … well ok, I like the lecturers. While I may now work at a university, there is something about the direct, honest and impassioned nature of this cult that brings out the vocationalist in me.

I am speaking today at a ComptTIA event, with colleges in northern England.

What has been the most defining part of this event is how the success of vendor programmes depends entirely on the commitment and understanding of the vocationalist.

Whilst leadership and direction is key, nothing generates student success like a motivated lecturer and vocationalist. Vocationalist generate opportunities, market to students, create experiences and engage learning.

When you look at your teaching team and at others in our profession, who are your vocationalists?

Who are the souls that could bring your college vendor success, is it you?

But a US Government Accountability Office report has suggested that many in-flight wireless networks could expose the plane to being hacked or remotely controlled . In fact it’s of such a concern to US authorities that when a well-known computer security expert made an admittedly ill-thought-out joke about doing so on Twitter, he was promptly arrested, his computers confiscated, and subsequently banned from the airline . Looking back, 2014 was not a good year for keeping things safe under digital lock and key. If a score was being kept, it might seem that the cybercriminals are in the lead, despite the valiant efforts – and own goals – from the cybersecurity profession worldwide. Based on an error in code upon which the majority of the world’s secure servers relied, experts had plenty of time to fix the issue.
