Judging for @worldskillsuk ... the story so far ...

Many who read this blog are aware of my varied posts; sharing not only opinion on the state of UK education, also many other eclectic posts on topics that that my fancy.

So, here I am, back with Kevin, the training manager for IT Networking, Judging for the next round of hopefuls making the journey towards World Skills at Sao Paulo. As ever I am impressed by the attitude and determination of these young adults. In spite of the oft bad press tomes like the Daily Mail tarnish this generation with. The reality is that out there, we should be proud of the many focussed, dedicated and motivated people the next generation produces.

In spite of our best efforts to screw up their opportunities at an educational and political level they seem to survive and more importantly thrive.

At the moment, after day one it is neck and neck between Bartoz and Richard. Two souls from different parts of the UK who are determined to be their best and try to be even better.

Some proverb once declared that .... a good teacher teaches students, an even better teacher learns from their students. Here is a place where I hope to learn a little of what this souls have got.

If airlines offer in-flight Wi-Fi, they should invest in an extra black box for security ...

But a US Government Accountability Office report has suggested that many in-flight wireless networks could expose the plane to being hacked or remotely controlled . In fact it’s of such a concern to US authorities that when a well-known computer security expert made an admittedly ill-thought-out joke about doing so on Twitter, he was promptly arrested, his computers confiscated, and subsequently banned from the airline . Looking back, 2014 was not a good year for keeping things safe under digital lock and key. If a score was being kept, it might seem that the cybercriminals are in the lead, despite the valiant efforts – and own goals – from the cybersecurity profession worldwide. Cast your mind back to March , everyone was panicking about the HeartBleed bug. Based on an error in code upon which the majority of the world’s secure servers relied, experts had plenty of time to fix the issue. Sadly there was an array of conflicting information about changing passwords, leading to widespread confusion.
